City Creek and Temple Square

Kind of a cool story here, we asked a gal to take a picture of our family, and she turned out to be a reporter for the Church News.  So she took our picture and in return asked a few questions. Lo and behold, we made it in the paper!  This is what it said, "The Schenk family from Seattle gathered for a family photo near Christmas lights cascading down in the shape of a tree. This was their second time to see the lights on Temple Square as a family, although some of their children who attend BYU had been here more frequently. Lisa Schenk, the mother, said she was most looking forward to the Nativity scene. "  Pretty cool, huh?

More Thanksgiving in Utah

As soon as we arrived to pick up Devin and Carson in Rexburg we got a quick tour of the new I Center and then bowled a couple of games.  Keith showed off by getting 3 or 4 strikes in a row!

The rest of us were just trying to remember how to bowl after many years off!

The best thing about this Kiwi Loco frozen yogurt shop is that it is right next to Devin's apartment building.

Enjoying the BYU Basketball game.

I may or may not have had the 2nd highest score after Richard.

But probably because Keith pulled a muscle in his leg while bowling.  I guess that Turkey Bowl had some serious after effects!

Celebratin a strike!

Father and son gettin it done.

Some fierce competition.

Lots of onlookers.

I don't think all of us combined were able to beat Eric.

Dennis may or may not have purchased that fu man chu with blue arcade tickets.

More winnings to redeem!

Some sort of amazing slimy thing purchased with all those blue tickets.  Now that's what makes a boy happy!

Shopping at BYU Bookstore.

On my list of things to do in Utah, try some cupcakes from The Sweet Tooth Fairy.  Very good, but I think I like the Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe better.  That's where we got them for Katie's baby shower a couple years ago.

Pretty good lookin bunch.

Great week with the kids!

Rock Canyon Trail

How far would you hike for a view like this?  Well, if you're in Provo Utah, you don't have to hike very far at all.  Saturday afternoon we wanted to get out into the great outdoors.  This hike is just above the Provo Temple, so just a short drive from Diane's place.

We Three Kings of the Hill!

Such a cute couple.

One of the many nice bridges along the way.  The river beds were completely dry, so the bridges were optional.

We hiked until we had snow underfoot and then headed back the way we came.

On the way down the trail Dennis spotted this little cave and decided we should check it out.  No one else voluteered to risk going into that little dark cave, so the biggest among us did the dirty work.

Carson, fearing for his safety, or just wanting to be the first to know if anything exciting happened down there, was keeping a close eye on the situation.

Apparently things looked, and smelled, a little sketchy down there.  You can get the full report from Dennis.

We were lucky enough to catch the sun casting its last light of the day upon the mountainside as we made our way to the trailhead.  Gorgeous!

Eric took the dare to do a little free rock climbing.  From me.  Yah, he's brave.

And sure footed.  Maybe it's those sturdy new hikers his dad picked up for him at the REI garage sale.  Or maybe it's his crazy mountain goatlike skills.

Uh-mazing.

Love these warm beautiful colors. It was a lovely afternoon indeed.
